Steph is one of those really positive people, always so happy, always seeing the good in people. I taught her daughter in a school for a bit, and now privately - plus Steph and her husband, Will. Such a lovely family. I was teaching them earlier in the day, and then had to come back in the evening for the show. The lesson itself was focussed and quiet (as quiet as drums can be), working on a 6/8 groove for Fairytale of New York. When I came back in the evening, the house was packed - they'd literally invited everyone, and there was a bit of expectation going into this. Having lagged a bit in the last show, I wanted to get the tempo back for this one. If anything, I took that too far...I was fast, really fast, the first time I've performed this show in under an hour. I think it mostly worked, I missed out chunks, I (just by default) threw in a line from my old show about road rage, but apart from the segments where my eyes got wider and the show got faster, people kept up and feedback afterwards was positive. It's almost there, you know, I mean...it's all there, the performance isn't, yet, but it's not far off.
