Show 2: Phil's house

Date: 25/10/25

Host: Phil
Audience size: 6
Show length: 78 minutes

In the gap between shows 1 and 2, I had major car issues, which felt very 'on brand'. Driving in the fast lane of the A14, my car went into limp mode, from 70 down to 10mph in a matter of seconds. Remarkably, thanks to the alertness of other drivers, I managed to drag across three lanes and into a layby. All fixed now, £500 later, and adds as a nice side note in the show. Two days later I was on a film set in Dorset for a few days, the lead in a new film, and then eventually back for this show.

Phil is the dad of Emily, who is married to Edd - occasional bandmate who became my landlord way back in my single days who became such a good friend I even ended up being his best man. Edd and Emily, a bit like Nicole, are very regular house show hosts, and Phil often attends so for the first time we did one at his in Ely instead. In his beautiful house he set up the chairs 'theatre style' and a lovely called Sally made a cake with a cars design on it. I felt that at Nicole's the show was so full pelt the audience didn't have time to breathe, so for this one I wanted to take the edge off it a bit, slow it down. I think I went too far the other way and, although marginally shorter in running time, the performance dragged a bit. I also had a very heavy cold, which didn't help. They seemed to really enjoy it all the same.
